NHSX to loosen grip over care record boundaries, By Nick Carding 1 September 2020
  • In July 2019, the NHS Strategy Unit and Ipsos MORI were appointed to undertake a national level process evaluation of the LHCR programme, focusing on the national support provided to the five ‘exemplars’ that were funded as Wave One LHCRs, and which constitute phase one of the programme.
  • The evaluation drew on mostly qualitative methods. It was conducted through two rounds of interviews: in late 2019, interviews with national and local workstream leads were undertaken and in early 2020, interviews with LHCR Wave One site leads were conducted.

From EHR to PHR: let’s get the record straight

From EHR to PHR: let’s get the record straight
BMJ Open 2019;9:e029582. 18 September 2019 doi: 10.1136/bmjopen-2019-029582
  • This article reflects on the changing nature of health information access and the transition of focus from electronic health records (EHRs) to personal health records (PHRs) along with the challenges and need for alignment of national initiatives for EHR and PHR.
  • The authors propose regional PHR ‘hubs’ to provide a universal interface that integrates digital health data at a regional level with further integration at a national level. PHR hubs will reduce the complexity of connections, decrease governance challenges and interoperability issues while also providing a safe platform for high-quality scalable and sustainable digital solutions, including artificial intelligence across the NHS.

Abstract

New quality kite mark for health information

PIF partners with cross sector organisations to develop new quality mark for trustworthy health information
Patient Information Forum, 18 September 2019
  • In August 2018, NHS England announced The Information Standard kite mark, membership and assessment scheme was to cease.
  • PIF has consulted with its members and there was overwhelming support for an easily recognisable kitemark to help people recognise information that is evidence-based, accurate and up to date. A steering committee of PIF member organisations has helped draft the criteria that information producers must meet to achieve the quality mark. A pilot will test the practicality of the draft criteria and the validation process.
