  • This large review 36 systematic reviews and individual studies looking at the effect of mass media campaigns on six preventable risk factors.
  • The review identified several research gaps. For example, few campaigns directed at drinking or eating behaviours showed positive changes. Only tobacco control campaigns have demonstrated cost. While a better understanding of the optimal delivery format is still needed, media campaigns appear to be more effective when intense, long-running and well-targeted to a population group.

  • Case study of an A&E avoidance social marketing campaign in Merseyside using videos of a local rugby league club.players and seed funding from a local healthcare facilities and estates provider.
  • Backed by social media advertising, the result was 14 times the engagement of traditional NHS marketing in the area and a correlating 7.8 per cent reduction in local A&E usage.

  • Survey got 64 anonymous participants and 11 questions.
  • Top 3 resources that participants said they needed were;
    • promotional leaflets
    • Healthy Start application leaflets
    • promotional posters
  • 42.2% of participants make their own Healthy Start resources, 43.8% did not and the rest did not know.
  • currently 68.8% of participants use the existing Healthy Start website to access resources
